Despite its Steam reviews going up and down like a yo-yo, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is one of the most popular PC games out there, so popular in fact that it has twice the playerbase of both CS:GO and Dota 2! Given these rather ridiculous stats it was only a matter of time before competition started appearing, so it shouldn't come as much of a surprise to hear that Epic has now added a Battle Royale mode to their action-building game Fortnite.

What might come as a bit of a surprise, however, is the simple fact that Fortnite's Battle Royale game mode is free-to-play! So if you ever wanted to give the genre a try, but you didn't feel like buying into an Early Access game to do so, you now have a chance to see what its all about. Simply head over to the official website and you'll find links to both the PC and console versions of the Battle Royale game mode.

Before you do, it is worth mentioning that Fortnite and PUBG are fairly different games despite having pretty much the same premise. In Fortnite there are no secure locations as everything you build or hide behind can be destroyed with enough firepower, but on the other side of the coin you also have the ability to construct your own shelters and pathways. So if you like sniping you can always construct yourself a massive tower or just build a staircase up the side of a mountain, though this will obviously draw attention to you.

While all of that is downright awesome, Fortnite has a bit of a problem with the shooting mechanics as they just don't feel impactful or precise enough. So if your main reason for liking PUBG are its mechanics, I'm afraid Fortnite won't be able to replicate that. But if you can live with somewhat sloppy shooting I think Fortnite is well worth checking out, purely because of how much fun you can have destroying the map in the later portions of the match. With all of that said, allow me to leave you with the most recent teaser trailer, just to give you an idea of what you're getting yourself into. Enjoy!
