Project Zomboid zombie survival simulator official artwork without the logo

[Update #2]: Project Zomboid's Update 42 will rework crafting and greatly expand Engineering/Electrical skills.

[Update]: Project Zomboid devs have now outlined everything they're hoping to add with Update 42.

If you've ever used a Molotov cocktail or a pipe bomb in Project Zomboid, or simply watched your own house go up in flames due to a faulty generator, you've probably noticed that the fire system isn't exactly polished. Fire not only spreads in a weirdly slow fashion and seems to engulf objects that would in reality be fireproof, but it only ever does anything if you're nearby. So if you would set a building on fire, leave for six months and come back, you would find that the blazing inferno was patiently waiting for you exactly as you left it.

Two years ago the Project Zomboid team set to work on greatly improving fire and making it far more realistic, though the importance of the big multiplayer focused Update 41 forced them to redirect their efforts to more pressing matters. Now that things are less hectic, work on the fire system has been reignited!

H.R. Giger inspired first-person horror game Scorn artwork of a giant mechanical heart

After quite a few years in development, the H.R. Giger inspired horror-adventure Scorn has now finally been unleashed onto PC and Xbox. As you would expect from that description alone, Scorn is all about wandering through disturbingly fleshy landscapes, solving a variety of bizarre puzzles, as well as facing off against an assortment of mutated monstrosities with highly limited ammo and resources.

What all of this looks like in action, as well as what kind of atmosphere Scorn is going for, that you can find out through the freshly posted launch trailer. Have a gander:

The Case of the Golden Idol indie detective game official artwork and logo

If you're in the mood for a remarkably charming yet oddly bizarre game, you might want to give the freshly released The Case of the Golden Idol a chance. To put it simply, it's a Return of the Obra Dinn inspired detective game that will task you with unraveling the mystery behind a bunch of murders spanning 40 years, all of which are somehow connected.

In order to accomplish this you'll have to carefully recreate each scene of death with the evidence at hand, find which seemingly unimportant clues are a part of a much greater conspiracy, and with a bit of luck, bring the killers to justice. What all of this looks like in action, however, that you can get a pretty good idea of through the launch trailer below. Have a gander:

RimWorld colony simulator game artwork for the new Biotech expansion

[Update]: The Biotech expansion has now arrived, and I'm happy to say that things are looking quite good so far!

A fair bit of time has gone by since the previous Ideology expansion, but the RimWorld team has now returned with the announcement of a massive new expansion - Biotech. As the name might imply, the upcoming Biotech expansion will bring with it gene editing technology that lets you collect and implant an assortment of alien genes in order to create a wide variety of super-human or super-monstrous colonists.

With the Biotech expansion colonists will also be able to become pregnant and give birth - both naturally and via technological means. Depending on how well you treat your new additions, as well as much effort you put into their education, you will be able to give them numerous traits and passions to help shape their adult life and make them a valuable member of the colony. Or if you don't particularly care what they are capable of and you just need cheap workers and soldiers, you can simply use the always-handy growth vats to pump them out by the dozens!

Deep Rock Galactic artwork for the Season 3: Plaguefall update

[Update #2]: Deep Rock Galactic's Season 3 - Plaguefall update has added fancy new grenades, enemy variants and mission objectives.

[Update]: The Halloween event has now gone live, though the big Season 3 update is still being kept under wraps.

After a few rounds of teasers, the Deep Rock Galactic team has now finally shared a shred of concrete information about the big Season 3 update coming this November 3rd. As the name might imply, Season 3: Plaguefall will have you working towards cleansing a particularly nasty disease called Rockpox that has wormed its way through Hoxxes IV and seemingly created a new, evolved threat down in the mines.

In order to help you contend with these new challenges, Deep Rock Galactic will be adding four awesome new grenades to play around with. Since the Gunner loves his weapons so much, the Tactical Leadburster grenade will shoot out a massive amount of projectiles in a full 360-degree radius, thus ensuring anything caught in the radius will immediately regret its life choices. The Driller's Springloaded Ripper follows a similar line of thought, though instead of an explosion of bullets the 'grenade' and its array of razor-sharp teeth will continuously circle around an area and keep it clear of any chaff. Here's what the two look like in action:

Dead Cells official artwork for the Boss Rush update

[Update #2]: Dead Cells' first 2023 expansion will be a rather ambitious crossover with Castlevania.

[Update]: Dead Cells' second big indie crossover update has added Terraria, Slay the Spire and Risk of Rain themed items, among others.

Instead of adding a brand new biome or a whole assortment of weapons to toy around with, Dead Cells' latest Boss Rush update has gone for a more focused approach. As such, it brings with it a couple of new items to experiment with, as well as a Boss Rush mode that lets you fight against both basic and enhanced versions of bosses, the latter of which come with things like "extra limbs, healing powers, or buddies to help them kill you!"

You can access the Boss Rosh through a basement door in the Prisoner's Quarters, the same place you can find the Training Room and the Tailor. Once you're inside you will find four additional doors to choose from, each one essentially representing a difficulty setting. The first two will have you fight against three basic and enhanced bosses respectively, while the second pair will up the ante and have you fight five one after another.

Choo-Choo Charles survival horror game with a demonic train artwork and logo

[Update]: Choo-Choo Charles has now arrived, and as you would expect it's really short, a bit janky, yet also quite fascinating.

Despite the name making it sound like one of those Thomas the Tank Engine Skyrim mods, Choo-Choo Charles is a surprisingly serious survival-horror game about trying to escape, outmaneuver and eventually destroy a demonic train. In order to do so you'll have to frequently leave the safety of your cabin to search for resources and bizarre artifacts, carefully drive your train and plan your routes in order to avoid the evil glare of Charles, take further risks to help the locals in exchange for new weaponry, and slowly but surely upgrade your own train to the point where you can attempt to challenge the forces of darkness directly.

If this kind of insanity sounds like it's right up your alley, you'll be happy to hear that you won't have to wait all that long in order to dive in. According to the latest developer update, Choo-Choo Charles will be launching onto PC via Steam on December 9th, 2022!

Bonelab VR based sandbox action game artwork and logo

Just like its predecessor Boneworks, the freshly released Bonelab is a VR, physics-based action game that mostly serves as a wacky sandbox for you to mess around with. As such, one of the things you can do in Bonelab is import a custom avatar to play as, with your characters' stats reshaping themselves to match your new form! This means you can be an extremely small and nimble character that exclusively punches people in the shins, or an absolute monstrosity that more than compensates for its slow speed with sheer damage.

What all of this nonsense looks like in game, that you can get a pretty good idea of through the launch trailer below. Have a peek:

Moonscars dark and gloomy action-adventure artwork

If you're in the mood for slicing and dicing your way through hordes of enemies as you explore a nonlinear 2D world, you might want to take a peek at the recently released Moonscars. To put it quite simply, it's a grim and dreary yet highly atmospheric Souls-like Metroidvania that will task you with overcoming countless challenges in an effort to save yourself from the relentless darkness.

What all of this looks like in actual gameplay, however, that you can get a pretty good idea of through the launch trailer below. Have a gander, it's a rather stylish one:
