Sundered is a hand-drawn Metroidvania that will have you explore a ruined world teeming with eldritch horrors. Unlike most Metroidvania games, however, Sundered has a mixture of hand-crafted and procedurally generated levels, which in theory should add a ton of replayability and content to explore.

If you're wondering what all of this might look like in gameplay terms, you'll find one of the recent trailers down below. Its not very long, but it sure is lovely to look at. Have a gander:

After a couple of months filled with teasers Sundered has now finally arrived on Steam, though the reception so far has not been exactly ideal. I haven't had the time to play it myself, so take the following with a few grains of salt, but it would appear that the procedurally generated levels have ended up being more of a nuisance than a boon. According to the Steam user reviews most of the hand-crafted levels are a joy to explore, while the majority of the randomized areas are just straight up tedious to navigate and fight through. Its a real shame since the atmosphere and visuals in Sundered are simply top notch, so hopefully the developers will be able to patch out some of these problems in the coming weeks.

If you would like to learn more, or just grab yourself a copy despite some of these issues, I would recommend heading over to either Steam or the official website. And finally, allow me to send you off with a couple of very stylish images:
